ND FFA Foundation Annual and Board Meeting

7/23/05  ND State Fair in Minot

4 PM

 The meeting was called to order by President Bridgette Readel.

 Self Introductions:  There were 19 members and guests present.  They were Al Giese, Lane Moellenkamp , Doug Vannurden , Jayme Fiesel, Andrew Dosch, Brooke Jameson, Robert Foertsch, Jared Peterson, Bruce Bachmeier , Bridgette Readel, Myron Johs, Beth Bakke Stenehjem, Joel Janke , Leonard Tesky, Bryan Strom , Thomas Williams , and Jerry Wettlaufer

 Thomas moved to accept sponsors and FFA officers as voting members.  Jerry seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

 Secretary’s Report:  Jerry moved to accept the secretary’s report.  Thomas seconded the motion.  Motion passed.  Mara is gone and so Brooks and Paige will take the minutes for this meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  Accounts Balance report was $200,241.18 which included $1,077.00 worth of FFA animals and semis for sale.  There was a new computer purchased this spring.  Total income brought in since Jan. 1 was $132,829,74.  Total expenses since Jan. 1 was $113,406.70.  Thomas moved to accept the treasurer’s report.  Bryan seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

Committee Reports

1.       Auction:  The auction at the ND State Fair brought in approximately $7,000. 

2.       Alumni Association:  Bruce reported that there are 18 affiliates with McClusky and Wishek being new ones.  The association gave four partial scholarships for WLC.  Lenny Tesky was selected at the last Alumni Association meeting to take Bruce’s place on the ND FFA Foundation board as an Alumni Association representative.  Bruce also talked about the Chapter Presidents’ Conference held in Carrington on July 11.  Bruce, Myron, Beth, and Bridgette were in attendance for part of that conference.  Amber Haugland and Luke Browning (both past national FFA officer) presented as well as Brooks and Paige.  Bruce thought that the funding from the foundation and the alumni association was well spent on the conference.

3.       FFA State Convention Highlights – Doug reported that the convention went well with the highest attendance in many years with over 1300 members.

4.       Promotional Items:  Beth reported that there are new 2005 FFA animals available for purchase.

5.       National FFA Convention:  Doug reported that there will be a large group going to convention which is the last week in October.  He mentioned that it is the last year in Louisville and that probably there will be 400-500 who will be attending from ND.  The 42 American Degree applications were approved.  Brooks is our candidate for national office.

6.       State Fair :  Doug announced that there are over 19,000 FFA exhibits without the final count which will include the livestock. 

7.       Human Resource Committee:  The committee will report in September.

8.       Transfer Bakk Trust Committee:  The committee will report in Sept.

 Old Business:

1.       Sponsorship of events:  Most of the proficiency areas at state convention are covered.  Most of the state CDE’s are also covered at least partially except for Floriculture CDE and the Horse Judging CDE.  Beth will put together a list for the next meeting of the sponsorships that are needed.  Beth reported that there are a few sponsors from State FFA Convention who still need to pay.

2.       Fundraisers:  Beth reported that the golf tournament has more sponsors than last year (all Eagle sponsorships are full).  There are openings for teams still.  The Timberwolves game went well with $1700 made on tickets.  The Twins game was also a success with Josh Feil from Divide County FFA throwing out the first pitch.  The Chevy Scholarship Program will begin in late August or early September.  The ND FFA Foundation made approximately $7000 last year.

3.       VSO and Farm Management Contracts:  Joel reported that the VSO contract was approved at a $500 increase to $17,000 for the next year.  The Farm Management contract will be $2,400 which is the same as last year.

4.       FFA Proud Community Signs:  Brooks is working with Jeff Buyk from Minnesota .  He will report more in September.

5.       Myron suggested getting Beth a new printer for the office.

 New Business:

1.       Performance Review: Beth will do Joel’s performance review.  Bridgette will receive comments and will do the review this fall with Thomas and Doug or Steve.

2.       Funding for National Chapter Awards:  Brooks moved to give $400 to the eight chapters who will be receiving the National Chapter Awards at National Convention.  The motion was seconded by Brooke.  Al moved to amend the motion by adding the words “The Chapter must attend to receive the money for the 2005 National Convention.  The motion was seconded by Brooks.  The amendment passed.  The main motion as amended passed.

3.       Board Member to attend National Convention:  Al nominated Thomas to represent the ND FFA Foundation Board at the National Convention in October with a stipend of $600.  Bryan seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

4.       Election of Board of Directors:

a.       Thomas moved to re-elect Bryan Strom and Al Giese for another term on the board.  Jerry seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

b.       Thomas moved to approved the Alumni Association’s choice for the ND FFA Foundation as Leonard Tesky.  Myron seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

c.       Bruce moved to cast a unanimous ballet for Dennis Walsh for the Business and Industry position on the board.  Brooks seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

5.       Election of Officers:

a.       Tom nominated Mara for office of secretary.  Doug seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

b.       Al nominated Jerry for office of president.  Bryan seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

c.       Jerry nominated Al for the office of vice president.  Bryan seconded the motion.  Motion passed.

 Other Business:

Future Meeting Date:  Brooks moved to have the fall meeting September 7, 2005 at 9:00 AM at the Farmers Union in Jamestown subject to availability.  Al seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Phonothon:  Al asked about the phonothon.  Beth said she will report at the next meeting.

Jerry congratulated Bridgette and Bruce on such great work on the FFA Foundation Board.

Announcements:  The PDC conference will be held in Bismarck on August 8-11.  The Golf Tournament is August 11 at Hawktree.

   

Jerry moved to adjourn the meeting.  Bryan seconded it and the motion passed.
