Ty Hanson –
Nursery Operations Proficiency Award Winner
Tyrell Hanson, a recent graduate and member of the Berthold FFA Chapter,
decided when he was s sophomore that he wanted a job that would allow him to
work outside and was related to agriculture.
It seemed to Ty that Lowe’s
Garden
Center
in
Minot
was a perfect fit. He applied as a
nursery worker but found that all those positions were filled; so he applied to
help with carryout and customer assistance.
It wasn’t long before his employer realized how valuable Ty was and
moved him to an opening as a nursery worker.
“As a nursery worker, my duties required me to perform all types of
nursery related tasks. I stocked the
sales area, watered and pruned trees, assisted customers, potted bare root
trees, sprayed trees with pesticides, and performed many other related
activities,” said Ty.
Ty’s second summer with Lowe’s began with the same
duties, but he was quickly moved to the landscaping crew early in the summer.
“It’s awesome to start at a house that looks plain when you get
there; then transform it into its own unique look,” said Ty of these new
responsibilities.
Ty would like to have a career in
North Dakota
as a wildlife biologist or game warden someday.
Kelly Finke, his FFA advisor, said, “Ty has been a great student and
great employee. I feel his SAE
(Supervised Agricultural Experience) is strong and demonstrates his ability to
be successful as an employee and individual.”
The Nursery Operations Proficiency awards are sponsored by
Bev and Joel Janke.
