Samantha Fenner – Forest Management and Products Proficiency Award Winner

by Melissa Mitchell

Samantha Fenner from Upham ND takes great pride in her ability to grow plants.  She has learned everything she knows from her father Rodney Fenner, who earned a degree in Urban Forestry at NDSU.

Together the family operates a business which involves urban forestry, nursery, landscaping, tree care, and experimental sciences. Samantha runs her own ten acres of the family tree farm and cares for roughly one thousand trees in over a dozen varieties. Through her years of experience she has attained an expert’s education and has been able to provide many different services to the community.  These skills have helped her become the Forest Management and Products Proficiency award state winner.

Some of the services Samantha provides for the community include landscaping, tree care, and clearing yards of branches after violent storms.  Although the work can be difficult at times, Samantha says she enjoys what she does and manages to have fun every day she is at work.

Samantha's knowledge of forestry has earned her the responsibility of coaching the Towner FFA Chapter's Nursery Landscaping team.  She plans to continue her work with the Towner FFA and become a member of the Towner FFA Alumni.

In the near future Samantha plans on earning her bachelor degrees in music, English as a second language, theater, and bible studies and eventually a masters’ degree in English.  She hopes to become a high school English teacher in the Minot area.

The Forest Management and Products Proficiency awards are sponsored by the Bottineau FFA Chapter and the John Deere Company.
