Nick Hafner –
Emerging Ag Technology Proficiency Award Winner When he started at Cannon Technologies, Nick did odd jobs
such as mowing the lawn and taking out the garbage.
Gradually, the manager saw that Nick was ready for a more challenging
position, and he taught Nick skills to help with the company’s business. With Nick’s knowledge of mathematical concepts and
computer skills, he was the perfect fit to become part of the company’s
technical support team. Nick is now
engaged in the testing, repair, programming, and manufacturing of the
company’s products. Nick said,
“I’ve had to learn such skills as soldering, working serial numbers, and
operating advanced equipment to fill those responsibilities.
In the last year I gained an even greater level of responsibility when I
was put in charge of constructing and wiring a carrier testing wall for our
products.” “One of my goals was to learn to use modern technology in
everyday applications. The use of
our ‘carrier’ system, for instance, was one such application,” wrote Nick
in his application. “It allows the
company to remotely control and communicate with watt/hour meters in the field
while in rural areas. The use of
electrical devices such as repeaters and the use of frequency emitting devices
for communication was also an interest of mine.” In the future Nick would like to finish high school with a
4.0 grade point average and earn a degree in electrical engineering. The Ag Technology Placement Proficiency award is sponsored by the ND Farmers Union. |
