Kyle Rzaszutak-Fiber
and/or Crop production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award Winner Off To a Great Start
Kyle Rzaszutak is a 17 year old student from the Carrington
FFA Chapter. Kyle’s interest in oil crop production was ignited when his
grandfather got him started in oil crop production in 2003 when he informed Kyle
that he had 355 acres for rent. Kyle has been renting that land from his
grandfather for three years; it costs him $65 per acre. That money also includes
the use of machinery and fuel. Last year Kyle’s grandfather told him there was
another 340 acres for rent, and Kyle is now renting that land too. Kyle uses the
650 acres to raise oil crops and small grains. In 2004 Kyle planted 80 acres of flax, and in 2005 he
planted 160 acres of flax and 25 acres of soybeans. Last year Kyle planted 185
acres of soybeans. Kyle markets his grain at the local elevator when he feels
the market price is favorable. When starting, Kyle’s biggest goal was to gain
more experience and knowledge of oil crop production. Another goal he had was to
earn a profit from his crops and also to gain knowledge in farm financial
skills. Kyle has made progress in gaining the skills and knowledge
to be successful in oil crop production. Kyle said “I am gaining more
knowledge each year.” He also has gained knowledge in budgeting, income
statements, and net worth statements. He
also joined the Carrington area Adult Farm Management Program. Kyle just graduated from The Fiber and/or Crop production Entrepreneurship
Proficiency awards are sponsored by the North Dakota Soybean Council. By: Melissa Mitchell |
