James Rindy-Forage
Production Placement Proficiency Award Winner Learning Agriculture
Full-Time James Rindy is an 18 year
old from the Carrington FFA Chapter who wants to further himself by working in
an agricultural-related job to learn skills so he can go to school to earn a
degree in agriculture. In January of 2004, Neil Veen approached James about
working for Veen’s Hay Service. He was looking for a hired man to help with
their hay duties. The work included mowing, racking, baling, stacking, and
hauling bales. Once James took on the job, his first duties were to properly
grease and operate the round baler. James works full-time for Veen’s in the
summers and is looking forward to working for Veen’s again in the summer of
2007. Working at Veen’s has
provided James with early exposure to basic financial management because they
are an agribusiness that is paid for their services. Therefore, the costs of
their services need to be determined and a profit margin figured to determine
the prices to charge customers. James graduated from
Carrington high school in May of 2006. He took a year off from school and is
presently working for a farmer in the Carrington area. This fall he plans to
attend North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton to pursue a two-year
degree in agriculture. In the fall of 2009 James plans to transfer to NDSU to
major in Animal and Range Science. James also plans to someday own a ranch of
his own. The Forage Production
Placement Proficiency awards are sponsored by Interstate/Monsanto Seed Company. |
