Cody Friesz – Ag Sales Placement Proficiency Winner

When Cody Friesz, a member of the Garrison FFA Chapter, was a sophomore; he began working for Farmers Union Oil of Garrison.  He began working with the cash register, helping the gas station’s customers, and cleaning; but the longer he worked at the station, Cody became more and more familiar with the services and the customers and was able to participate more in the sales field.  “I began to help the farmers and ranchers find the right tires, filters, belts, and so forth for their equipment,” said Cody.  “My job at Farmers Union is not really to sell things, but to help our customers find something that will satisfy their needs.”

With three years of experience, Cody has been a valued employee.  In fact, in 2005 Cody received the Garrison Chamber of Commerce Youth Employee of the Year Award.  He also helped plan the Annual Farmers Union Oil Cooperative meeting last year.

Cody life, however, is not only full of work.  He is extremely active in a variety of FFA and high school activities.  He has been the FFA chapter president and vice-president, has been active in district and state competitions such as parliamentary procedure, agricultural sales, nursery/landscape, food science, and demonstration.  He was also involved with band, choir, track, speech team, and the Garrison Math Track Team.

This fall, Cody plans to attend the University of Mary in Bismarck and major in business administration.  He then plans to go on to get a law degree and eventually become involved in politics.

The Ag Sales Placement Proficiency awards are sponsored by Farmers Union Service Association.
