Audrey
Nash -- State Dairy Production
Placement Proficiency Award Winner In the spring of 2004,
Audrey had a few goals in mind for her part in the farm such as learning how to
operate all of the milking machinery and earning money so she could learn better
money management skills. Audrey also wanted to be able to do most of the milking
on her own. Some of the skills Audrey
has learned while helping on the Nash Dairy Farm are mastering how to run the
hydraulic gates, prep the cows, and feed the calves. They milk 60-70 cows
depending on the time of the year. She has also learned how to get
everything ready for the milking. She fills the dip cups, turns on the
lights, brings the cows into the barn, and does every thing to prepare the pipes
and filters from the cleaning position to the milking position. “I have
learned to do a lot of milking.” says Audrey. In addition to her work
experience, Audrey has been involved in many activities such as FFA, speech,
debate, student congress, church youth group, etc. She also has won a silver
individual award at the National FFA Convention in 2005 in the Food Science
Career Development Event, and her team won gold honors in the contest. As for Audrey’s future
goals, in the next ten years she plans to graduate from high school and a
respectable college. She is trying to get good grades, so she can earn
scholarships for college. The Dairy Production
Placement Proficiency awards are sponsored by the Midwest Dairy Association –
ND Division. By Melissa Mitchell |
