VCULEK NAMED
STAR FARMER FINALIST
Cole Vculek from the Oakes Sargent Central FFA Chapter has been named as a
finalist for the American Star Farmer award by the National FFA
Association. The star awards recognize students who have developed
outstanding agricultural skills and competency through their career development
programs, demonstrated outstanding management skills, earned the American FFA
Degree - the organization's highest level of accomplishment - and met other
agricultural education, scholarship and leadership requirements. Each star
finalist receives $2,000 from the National FFA Foundation and earns the
opportunity to participate in an international experience tour to Costa
Rica. A panel of judges will interview the finalists and select one winner
for each star award at the 84th National FFA Convention, October 19-22, in
Indianapolis, IN. Winners will receive an additional $2,000 award.
Cole established a Supervised Agriculture Experience program that allowed him
to gain the experience to get a good start in crop production. Beginning
with three acres of red onions in 2005, Cole has moved to seed potatoes and
soybean production. In 2008, Cole was named the National Proficiency Award
Winner in the Vegetable Production area. He was also named the State Star
Farmer in ND in 2009. Cole's parents are Brian and Julie Vculek and his
advisor is Dan Spellerberg.
